André Verchuren was a French accordionist closely associated with musette and popular dance music. His early career was interrupted by the Second World War; after the war he returned to dance halls and radio.
His 1956 appearance at the Olympia in Paris and his widely heard recordings helped bring the accordion to a large audience. The album and recording below show two points in that career. His 1960 album Parade des Succès received the Francis Carco prize and presents popular songs on accordion. The following year’s recording Les Fiancés d’Auvergne preserves another part of his dance repertoire. His concerts and records brought postwar French musette to a wide audience.
