Jo Privat was a French musette accordionist closely associated with Paris dance halls, especially the Balajo. His recordings after the Second World War brought swing phrasing and the sound of Manouche guitarists into the waltz repertoire.
The two selections show different sides of his work. Sa préférée is his own waltz in a 1945 recording; Manouche Partie is a 1960 recording project with guitarist Jean “Matelot” Ferret and other players, mixing Privat's pieces with arrangements and works by other composers. The collaborative album contains ten tracks and documents the interplay of guitar and accordion.
