Paolo Soprani helped turn accordion making into an industry in Castelfidardo, Italy. He began working with his brothers in a home workshop in the 1860s and established a larger factory in 1872. Instruments were exported to Greece by 1874. As production expanded, he also introduced electrically powered equipment for making reeds.
Local craftspeople supplied parts and specialist work around the factory, helping to establish Castelfidardo as an accordion-making centre. Soprani exhibited at the Paris Exposition in 1900. His lasting contribution lies in linking workshops, manufacturing methods and sales into a regional industry capable of supplying instruments well beyond the town.
