Tony Muréna was born in Italy in 1915 and moved to France with his family in 1923. He played in Parisian cabarets, where jazz became part of his musical vocabulary.
He signed with Odéon in 1939 and recorded swing and musette on 78 rpm discs, often with the Ferret brothers on guitar. His waltz Indifférence, co-written with Joseph Colombo, was recorded in 1942. Indifférence was subsequently taken up by many musette players. A reissue of recordings from 1939 to 1949 documents his exchanges with guitarists and his movement between waltz and swing in Paris.
