Viktor Gridin was a Russian bayan player, composer and conductor. In 1975 he began leading the musicians accompanying singer Lyudmila Zykina; that group developed into the Rossiya ensemble.
The ensemble's history records his compositions and his specially built six-row bayan. Beyond accompanying singers, he composed and arranged for a folk-instrument ensemble, helping shape its sound. His pieces Rassypukha and Ozornye Naigryshi draw on Russian dance and folk idioms. Accounts of the six-row bayan he built himself also show his interest in the instrument’s construction.
